Truffle Butter One Win Away From Back To Back World Series Titles

The 2023 ORWBL World Series kicked off on Sunday as the National League Champion New Carlisle Newts traveled to Payton's Yard to take on the defending champion Truffle Butter out of the American League.

It was a beautiful day out at Payton's Yard with pretty favorable conditions to hit. South Bend jumped out to win the first game of the series on their home turf by the score of 8-5 in what was a lower scoring opening game than expected.

The South Bend momentum rolled into Game 2 as they jumped out to a 9-3 lead after 2 innings. That's when the New Carlisle bats collectively woke up as they made a quick turnaround to take a 16-10 lead heading into the 4th.

After the game was flipped upside down, South Bend slowly began chipping away at the lead. Brandon Terry hit a solo shot in the bottom of the 6th to pull within 1 run, but Garrett Curless was able to get Walter Griffin III to pop out to end the game. When it was all said and done, New Carlisle pulled out the Game 2 victory, 18-17 in what was a World Series classic.

As the series progressed, it was pretty clear that these were two pretty evenly matched teams as both sides went back and forth. Game 3 went to extra innings as both teams missed opportunities to win the game in the 6th inning. In the bottom of the 7th it was Ryan Voges of the Truffle Butter who delivered the game winning Home Run.

Voges emerged onto the ORWBL season last year where he helped the Truffle Butter win their first World Series title. After not playing too much in the regular season, Voges put together a memorable World Series performance against the Granger Panthers, so this was nothing new to him.

Game 4 was very similar to Game 3 as both teams went back and forth for most of the game. The Newts once again took a lead into the Bottom of the 6th but they were not able to hold off the Truffle Butter lineup. This time it was Josh Trim who delivered the big blow as his walkoff Home Run helped South Bend pull within just one win of Back to Back World Series titles.

After an extremely competitive four games at Payton's Yard, the series will shift over to Migley Field for the conclusion of the series on Sunday, September 3rd. First pitch is set for 1:00pm ET as the Newts will need to win 3 straight games at the friendly confines while South Bend just needs 1 victory.
