Garrett Remkus of the Beers and Nate Fry of the Meatspins Take Home 2024 Rookie of the Year Honors

Throughout the week, we will be announcing the winners of the 2024 ORWBL regular season awards which were voted on by all sixteen Managers.  Players/Managers received 3 points for a 1st place vote, 2 points for a 2nd place vote, and 1 point for a 3rd place vote.  We will announce the winners of one award each day on the American and National League side leading up into Game 1 of the 2024 ORWBL World Series on Sunday.

Today we will announce the 2024 ORWBL Rookie of The Year Award winners. Starting off in the American League it was Garrett Remkus of the Union Mills BS&B who earned the most votes to take home the award. 

Remkus won a tight race over Valpo Vols Rookie Cole Deardorf. The Beers Rookie was voted in as an ORWBL All Star in his first season as he represented Union Mills in the All Star Game. He appeared in 26 games, leading the team in Batting Average with a .419 Average. 

He finished 2nd on the team in HR (18) and RBI (25). Remkus also led the Beers in Hits (49) and Runs (28). He undoubtedly played a big role in Union Mills taking a step forward in 2024 and figures to core peice of the puzzle in Union Mills going forward as he will look to build off an American League Rookie of the year season. 

Moving over to the National League, we saw Rookie Nate Fry of the Mishawaka Meatspins take home the most votes in what was a 2 man race between he and Ryan Majerik of the Skeeters. 

Fry appeared in 3 games for Mishawaka and while he failed to reach the hit column, he showcased his defensive skills as Manager Ryan Warmoth called Fry “a good Leftfielder.” We know the importance of defense in our style of play so it only makes sense that he takes home this award. 

Tomorrow, we will announce the 2024 Comeback Player of the Year Award winners on both the American and National League side. Below are the full results for the Rookie of the Year vote.
