Panthers Take two from 'Sharks in Snead Field's Opening
GRANGER - The Granger Panthers (14-1) suffered their first loss of the season Sunday, yet were still able to take two of three from the Saugany Lake Landsharks (7-8) with scores of: GR 10-8, GR 15-3, and SL 9-4.
Granger took the opener thanks to a late rally. Trailing 4 in the bottom of the 6th, the Panthers rattled off four consecutive solo home runs to tie the game at 8. With the score tied, Panther catcher Alex Zarazee capped off the rally by blasting a walk-off, two run homerun to win it for the home team, 10-8.
Granger kept their late game one momentum going in the second game, winning by a 12 run margin, 15-3. In the opening of Snead Field, Granger paid proper tribute to their late friend and teammate, Cam Snead, with one of their signature offensive outbursts in game two.
The undefeated start to 2019 ended in the final game of the day for Granger, as the visiting Landsharks reigned in the Panther offense. Led by former Cy Young winner Jake Lawrence, Saugany Lake held Granger to their lowest scoring game of the season. Saugany Lake took the final, 9-4.
Despite dropping their first game of the season, Granger sits at 14-1 and atop the National League heading into inter-league play. Next week, the Panthers will take on their cross-town rivals, the Twin Branch Billy Goats (13-2).
Saugany Lake, on the other hand, can be pleased with their showing against one of the top squads in the league. The Landsharks will take on a familiar foe next week as they welcome the Hudson Lake Heat (8-7).
