Best Case, Worst Case: LaPorte Cyclones

Turn on those team twitter notifications - ORWBL is back. We’re counting down the days until the 2019 season kicks off on May 5th by looking at the floor and ceiling of all 16 teams in the league. Today we preview the final of our five expansion teams: the LaPorte Cyclones. We look forward to hearing all about wrong these previews are, and how your team is being “slept on” this season.

Wiffleball News Preseason Ranking: 9

Last Season: N/A

Notable Transactions: N/A

Key Player: Mark Richards P - Richards is another first year Manager who is very excited for his team to be a part of ORWBL. Richards won the AL Rookie of the Year last season with the South Bend Muffs and will now look to thrive in a full time role and ace of the staff. Richards is going to be the catalyst of this team as this squad will go however far Richards can lead them both with his performance and leadership in the clubhouse.

Best-Case Scenario: This team won the final tournament of the season winning the Scarecrow Fest Tournament after a long day of the FA Fall Classic the Day before. If this team can start out strong, they should be able to be a strong contender in the American League. We have seen new ORWBL teams have some success in the past few years and this team has a very good chance to follow suit. If they can play like they did in recent tournaments, these guys have a shot at winning 15 games and maybe just maybe give Maple City a run at their money in the AL East.

Worst-Case Scenario: With tough matchups against Great Lakes, Hudson Lake, Twin Branch and Maple City in the American League, these guys could definitely face some first year struggles. It is hard to imagine these guys being more than a few games under .500 in a worst case scenario situation. There is too much talent on this young and eager to play first year team, but as stated above, there is some stiff veteran competition in the American League.
