HOT STOVE REPORT: 'Goats Bolster Defense, Add VanO
The off-season is here and in preparation for the 2019 ORWBL season, we will be taking a look at all the big signings, trades, and transactions from around the league as they happen this offseason.
Despite losing two of their starting outfielders to their cross-town rivals, the Twin Branch Billy Goats got some much-needed outfield help as they inked former Junkballer and Muff Connor VanOverberghe to an ORWBL deal.
The Gold Glove outfielder will join former Landshark Kadin Abegg as the newest additions to a Billy Goats squad that made huge strides at the end of last season. Despite making it all the way to the NLCS, they were ousted from the playoffs by the Granger Panthers.
The signing of VanOverberghe will improve a defense that already had led the league in Runs Allowed in 2018. Captained by Cy Young winner Andrew Doran, Twin Branch allowed just 81 runs this past season. With the addition of VanOverberghe, the 'Goats will be adding even more hardware as Connor is a former Gold Glove winner in 2017 with Jet City.
Last season was statistically the best season of VanOverberghe's career. As the starting left fielder for a 17 win Muffs team, he batted .508 with 26 Homeruns and 42 RBIs in 23 games played. Connor also picked up an AL-best 5 saves on the mound.
It will be interesting to see where VanOverberghe will play in the field come 2019, as the 'Goats already have an established left fielder in Lucas Oletti. No matter the positional arrangement, Oletti and VanO figure to be one of the top defensive duos in the league next summer.
