HOT STOVE REPORT: Magic Sign Emery's Army Duo Johnson & Murphy
The off-season is here and in preparation for the 2019 ORWBL season, we will be taking a look at all the big signings, trades, and transactions from around the league as they happen this offseason.
LA PORTE - The two-time defending World Series champion Maple City Magic have made their first moves of the off-season the past week. The Magic agreed to terms on a 2019 contract with both Ryan Murphy and Eric Johnson.
The former Emery's Army duo were a package deal for the defending champs as both players will be on the hunt for their first World Series title. Johnson, in particular, will be looking for his first ring as his 11th ORWBL season will kick off next year. With 4 years under Murphy's belt, the Magic will be adding 14 years of ORWBL experience to an already-veteran team.
Despite playing sparingly in 2018, both players figure to add depth to the reigning champs. As Maple City chases it's third consecutive title in 2019, fatigue will certainly be a factor. After back to back deep runs and countless additional games played, some added depth certainly will be welcomed.
Johnson previously played with the Magic in 2016 during Emery's Army's year-off, but this will be Murphy's first time in the purple and lime. With a combined 9 All-Star appearances, the Magic will be getting some serious ORWBL experience.
Maple City's front office announced both deals via Twitter on September 20th. The Magic announced that Johnson would once again be wearing number 33, while Murphy would be wearing number 3.
Despite winning back to back World Series titles and having an already near-full roster, the Magic are showing no signs of complacency. Their first moves of the off-season should add some valuable depth and experience to an already deep and experienced roster.
