Luther, Maple City completes magical comeback as they rally from 6-0 down to win Game 2, 7-6 in walk

LA PORTE- After dropping Game 1 of the 2018 ORWBL World Series, the injury depleted Granger Panthers came out hot as they put the struggles of Game 1 away immediately.

Despite being without Griffin Smith, Andy Seradski, and Tyler Scerosyski, the Panthers battled like crazy throughout the first 3 innings as they held a 6-0 lead over the Magic with Maple City being not hit through 3 innings.

Panthers Starting Pitcher Andy Migas was forced to exit the game due to a scare at 1st base in which he appeared to injure his knee which forced Manager Griffin Smith to roll with both Brett Shepard and Cory Cavenaugh who combined for 10 At Bats in the regular season.

After struggling to find his groove in Game 1, Drew Luther got things started by breaking up the no hitter in the 4th inning which led to a Caleb Jonkman 2 run Home Run. Wes Ellis followed things up and just like that, the game was 6-3.

Ellis managed to shut down the Panthers offense again in the 5th after a phenomenal leaping catch by Caleb Jonkman to rob what would have been a Home Run. Down 6-5 with 2 outs in the 5th inning, it was Drew Luther coming up clutch again as he tied the game at 6 with a solo Home Run.

After watching their 6-0 lead evaporate, the Panthers knew that the 6th inning could be make or break for them. However the 2 time reigning AL Cy Young Wes Ellis shut down the Panthers in the 6th, setting up a potential walk-off situation for the Magic.

Jared Jonkman got things going by reaching base with a hit, something the slugger is not used to as he has gotten used to launching the ball over the fence. With 2 outs in the bottom of the 6th, Granger was 1 out away from sending Game 2 to extra innings and then the man with the hot bat in Game 2, Drew Luther stepped up to the plate.

Luther is widely known around the league for being an opposite field hitter so the Panthers shifted their 2 time Gold Glove winner Seth Campbell out of Left Field.

After fouling one off, Luther pulled a line drive down the left field line as Cory Cavenaugh was not able to handle it as Jared Jonkman hauled around 3rd base to score the game winning run and complete the comeback sending the Magic players into a frenzy.

There is no doubt that both teams knew that the outcome of Game 2 would play a major role in terms of momentum and Maple City will carry all the momentum into Panther Park on Thursday, August 16th at 6:00pm ET. Can the Panthers live to fight another day or will Maple City join the South Bend Sour Wowers and the New Carlisle Newts as the only teams in ORWBL history to repeat as Champions?
