Maple City sweeps Hudson Lake (3-0) in the ALCS to advance to their 3rd consecutive ORWBL World Seri
LA PORTE- For the 3rd consecutive season, the Maple City Magic have won the American League Pennant after sweeping the Hudson Lake Heat 3 games to 0 in the Best of 5 American League Championship Series.
After dropping the first 2 games at home, the Hudson Lake Heat dug themselves into a hole that they were not able to come back from. Maple City headed into this knowing that they had 3 games to simply pick up 1 win, but they were not having any of that as they put the Heat out of their misery early as the Magic clinched their 3rd straight American League Pennant by the score of 6-3.
The American League frontrunner for MVP Caleb Jonkman had himself a 3 hit game while also scoring 2 runs and playing lockdown defense in Left Field. Meanwhile, reigning AL Cy Young Winner and potential 2018 Cy Young winner Wes Ellis was on his game as he had the Heat swinging and missing left and right.
Ellis also helped himself out at the plate as he had a Home Run and 2 RBI's. Drew Luther also played a big part in the game as he belted out 2 Home Runs to Right Center Field while Shane Anderson also hit one out himself.
The game was tied 1-1 after 1 inning but back to back 2 run innings for the Magic put them in control as the Heat were able to chip away to make it a 6-3 game but it was not enough as the Heat came up short. This is now the 2nd consecutive year that the Magic have eliminated the Heat.
For Hudson Lake, it was a very successful regular season as they managed to go 15-9, but for the 5th straight year, there season ended in a disappointing way. It will be interesting to see what Manager Jared Monhaut has in store for the offseason as they surely have to be getting tired of coming close to their 1st ever ORWBL World Series appearance.
Meanwhile for Maple City, they will look to become only the 3rd franchise in ORWBL history to go back to back as they look to join the South Bend Sour Wowers and the New Carlisle Newts. Maple City will now await the winner of the Panthers vs. Billy Goats series which is tied up at 1 game with the series set to resume this Sunday at Panther Park in what should be a high intensity game between two teams searching for their 1st ORWBL World Series appearance.
