Newts pick up a sun-soaked sweep in "The Rivalry"

NEW CARLISLE- NEW CARLISLE - It took a visit from an old friend to get the New Carlisle Newts (10-11) disappointing 2018 season back on track. New Carlisle swept away arch-rival Rolling Prairie, 2-0, 2-1, 4-1 on Sunday at Migley Field.

It was yet another difficult day to hit, as the wind was blowing in from the north once again. The ten total runs scored by both teams throughout the series matched the theme of the entire season for the Newts, who wrapped up the home slate with a 7-5 record. In the four series at Migley, the Newts averaged just 2.8 runs per game, while allowing only 2.4.

Since the 2016 renovations, which increased the distance from the fence to home plate by an average of 15 feet, offensive production has plummeted at the park once known as a launching pad.

Koby Keck stole all three victories on the mound for the Newts, improving his record to 5-0 on the season and lowering his league-leading earned run average to 1.52. The Skipper is on pace to break the all-time ORWBL single season record for lowest ERA. Matt Soos picked up two saves on the day.

It was the tenth straight win against Emery's Army for the Newts, dating back to the 2015 ORWBL Playoffs. New Carlisle is 9-0 against EA since they returned from a one-year hiatus in 2016. The all-time series, once led by Emery's Army, now stands at 34-25 in favor of the Newts.

New Carlisle concludes the regular season on Sunday, July 1 with a trip to Lynn Street to face the Leprechauns. The Newts, who will likely finish no better than fourth in the National League, will need a sweep to finish their sixth consecutive season with a winning record.
