Muffs take 2 as Maple City celebrates their 2017 Championship
LA PORTE- It was a special day in LaPorte as the Maple City Magic unveiled their first ever World Series Championship banner while also receiving their World Series rings. Maple City won their first World Series title against the Newts last season and have high hopes heading into this season as well.
While the Magic had a successful offseason, they did lose the Rieff brothers who helped lead the South Bend Muffs to a series win over the Magic to spoil the party.
Despite now wearing pink, 2017 World Series MVP Anthony Rieff, Austin Rieff, and Klay Smith were all there to receive their Championship rings. Pictured below is the 2017 World Series Championship team after receiving their rings.
After the ring ceremony, LaPorte Mayor Mark Krentz tossed out the ceremonial first pitch and these two teams kicked things off. In game 1, Maple City left right where they left off as they poured on 16 runs to win the season opener.
However, Games 2 and 3 were a different story as Cotter, the Rieff bros., and Mark Richards all turned it on as they took Game 2 (13-10) and Game 3 (13-9) to take the series. The Muffs clearly showed on Opening Day that they are going to be a hard team to beat this season and will look to build off of this momentum in Week 2 against the Landsharks.
