Godfathers Shembarger and Smith shine in debut's
MICHIGAN CITY- For the first time in ORWBL history, a Michigan City based team played in an ORWBL series as the Gardena Golden Showers hosted the Great Lakes Godfathers on Opening Day.
Unfortunately for Gardena, the Godfathers spoiled the party as the Godfathers poured on 60 runs combined in a 3 game sweep. The Godfathers offseason signings shined in Week 1 as Brian Shembarger led the way with 12 Home Runs which is good for tops in the league after Week 1.
Will Smith also had himself a day as he brought in 16 RBI's which is also good for the most RBI's by any player after Week 1. Now in their 3rd season, Great Lakes is really looking to become a championship competitor and if they can continue to get this kind of production from their role players as well as Mark Haase, this could truly be a breakout season for the Godfathers.
Great Lakes will look to build off of their Opening Day sweep as they will get together with the only other unbeaten team left in the American League, the Hudson Lake Heat on May 17th in what should be a high scoring affair between 2 fantastic hitting teams.
