2017 Team Recap: Galena Marsh Taco Punchers

After winning the National League West Division in 2016, the Dabbers changed their name to the Taco Punchers. While the name change likely did not have a role in the drop-off, 2017 was a big let down.

Led by seasoned Veteran, Jared Emmons, the Taco Punchers had high hopes in 2017 after a very successful 2016 regular season. The lack of depth in the Taco Punchers lineup proved to be costly as the team finished with an unimpressive 10-20 record.

While their -101 run differential leaves a lot to be desired, there were some bright spots for the Taco's. Sam Zucker had a season to remember as he led the team with 46 Home Runs, and 61 RBI while establishing himself as Emmons right hand man. Emmons himself had another quality season at the plate as he hit 45 Home Runs and led the team with 57 Runs.

At the end of the day, Galena's inability to get their core guys in the lineup proved to be costly as they clearly just weren't the same team that won the NL West in 2016. The Taco Punchers certainly were hoping for more out of Denis Jedrysek who appeared in only 9 games while hitting only .365. For those who know of Jedrysek's talent, they know that those are not his normal numbers.

The season got off to a bad start from the beginning as they went 2-10 through the first 12 games of the season. Galena was able to pick it up as the season progressed as they finished 8-10 in the final 18 games of the season.

Galena's season came to an end in the Wild Card Round as they bowed out to Rolling Praire's Emery's Army in what was a playoff matchup filled with ORWBL veterans.

Once Galena's season had ended, Jared Emmons announced that the Taco Punchers would not be returning for the 2018 season. Emmons did make it clear that some of his players and himself included were searching for new homes for the 2018 season.
