Koch, Cotter named 2017 Most Valuable Players

NEW CARLISLE- Throughout the week, the Old Republic Wiffleball League has announced the 2017 season award winners. Today we conclude with the announcement of the 2017 Most Valuable Players.

Jet City's Tony Koch was named the American League MVP while Olive Township's Aidan Cotter takes home the National League honors.

One of the more experienced players in the league Tony Koch takes home a well deserved AL MVP after blasting out 72 Home Runs while leading the charge over in Jet City. Despite manager Nate Arndt struggling with injury problems, Koch was able to lead Jet City to a 2nd consecutive AL West Division title.

Koch had a dominant season as he had a legitimate shot to win the Triple Crown for a couple of weeks. Normally a contact hitter, Koch transformed his power game to the next level as he was the only player to hit for 70+ Home Runs as no other player even reached the 60 Home Run mark.

This is Koch's 2nd MVP award as he becomes the first player in ORWBL history to win the MVP in both the American and National League. Other players have won an MVP in a league while also winning the ORWBL MVP when there were not two leagues. All in all, Koch continues to add to his Hall of Fame resume and whether you love him or hate him, it is no secret that the guy can hit.

Over in the National League, Olive Township's Aidan Cotter had a breakout season after a solid Rookie season in 2016. Cotter was snubbed from the All Star team in 2016 and used that as extra motivation to improve his game. Cotter was near the top of every hitting category this season and has one of the brighter futures of any players in the league.

While there were multiple players who had a legitimate shot to win the NL MVP, Cotter and his leadership stood out to the voters as the voting was not as close as many people would have assumed.

Cotter helped lead the Mechanics to a 16-14 season which was a major step forward from their 2016 campaign. In this case, the voters certainly were right as Cotter's impact on Olive Township is something that no other player could match.

This concludes yet another season of ORWBL season awards. There is still one more individual player award to be named and that is the 2017 ORWBL World Series Most Valuable Player. You can stay up to date with everything you need to know about the 2017 ORWBL World Series between the Maple City Magic and New Carlisle Newts.
