Newts Down the Mechanics to advance to NLCS
NEW CARLISLE- The Newts and Mechanics met up for the 3rd time this season with a trip to the National League Championship Series on the line. Olive Township headed into the series fresh off of an Aidan Cotter no hitter in the Wild Card Game but New Carlisle was able to make a statement early, winning Game 1, 6-2.
The fight in the young Mechanics kept them alive however as they bounced back in Game 2 with a 5-0 victory to force a decisive Game 3. The Newts played in an NLDS Game 3 last year as well and they were able to keep their World Series hopes alive by taking down the South Bend Sour Chicken Muffs.
As we know, the defending champions are battle tested and the veterans were able to shut out the Mechanics in Game 3, winning the game 7-0. It was a tough loss for Olive Township who was not ready to have their ORWBL season come to an end.
It was a wonderful season for Aidan Cotter and his Mechanics who bursted onto the scene in 2017 by winning their first 9 games. While they struggled down the stretch, the Mechanics knew that they would simply need to beat the Newts regardless of how their regular season ended.
Unfortunately for Olive Township, beating the Newts is no easy task. While Olive Township's season came to an end, there is certainly a lot of things that they can hang their heads on as they head into 2018 as they were easily the most improved team from last season.
New Carlisle now shifts their attention to the top seeded Granger Panthers as they will square off in a highly anticipated NLCS.
