Ellis makes ORWBL history with 2 no hitters against Leprechauns
LA PORTE- Just one day before leading the American League All Star team to victory, Wes Ellis made history by throwing not one, but two no hitters in Maple City's 3 game sweep over the Lynn Street Leprechauns.
There is no doubt that ORWBL is a hitter friendly league, so anytime a no hitter is thrown it certainly deserves attention. Ellis went above and beyond on the mound as he was 1 pitch away from the unthinkable: A perfect series.
Behind a stellar defense of Zach Liberatore, Caleb Jonkman, Brian Lockhart, and Anthony Rieff, Ellis picked apart the Leprechauns from start to finish. The lone hit he surrendered was a solo home run to Nick Brassell in the 5th inning of Game 2.
This performance adds even more to an already impressive resume from Ellis on the mound in 2017. While only pitching half of the season, Ellis led the league with 32 strikeouts and was already the front-runner to win the American League Cy Young before his masterful day.
Ellis's pitching was so perfect that the Lynn Street Leprechauns took notice and sent Matt Smith to Maple City in exchange for a case of water and a signed photo of Ellis.
All in all, it was a memorable day for the former MVP who will look to pitch Maple City all the way to its first ORWBL Championship.
