American League ends All Star drought
NEW CARLISLE- For the first time in half of a decade, the American League is back on top after they swept the National League (2-0) in the 11th ORWBL All Star Game.
Commissioner Friedman made some changes ahead of this year's All Star Game as he decided to remove Home Field Advantage being awarded to the winning league. That did not affect much as some of the great's around the league gave it their all in hopes of leading their respective league's to a win.
Friedman also decided to switch from one 9 inning game to a Best of 3 series with games lasting the usual 6 innings. Nearly 100 people were in attendance on a beautiful night to watch the best players in the league on one field.
In Game 1, Hudson Lake's Bob Bushman got things going with a solo Home Run off of Granger's Griffin Smith. Maple City's Wes Ellis added onto that with a 2 run Home Run after Cabo's John Premetz made the game 2-0 with a solo shot of his own.
As it turns out, all Wes Ellis needed was Bob Bushman's solo blast as Ellis shut down the National League All Star's en route to a 5-0 win. Jet City's Tony Koch collected 3 hits while Caleb Jonkman propelled the AL, scoring 2 runs.
In Game 2, Alex Friedman handed the ball over to Hudson Lake's Jared Monhaut who followed suit and threw 5 2/3 scoreless innings before handing the ball over to teammate Mikey Smith.
Smith gave up a solo shot and Alex Friedman did not mess around one bit, sending out his closer Tony Koch who got the final out and sealed the 2-0 sweep for the American League.
The AL picked up the 2-1 victory behind Drew Luther and Dan Zeiger RBI's. All in all, it was great having such a nice turnout and seeing everyone get a chance to play.
For Friedman, this was his first All Star game win as a manager as he lost his previous 2. Koby Keck over on the NL side picked up his first All Star Game loss in quite some time but still holds a 4-4 record managing in the All Star Game.
After shutting out the National League in Game 1, Wes Ellis took home the 2017 ORWBL All Star Game Most Valuable Player honors. Ellis also helped himself out in Game 1 as he blasted a moonshot home run off of Griffin Smith.
On that note, the American League has the bragging rights until these two meet up again in the 2018 All Star Game which will likely be at Migley Field once again.
