Shail leads Newts to a sweep in the return of The Rivalry'
NEW CARLISLE - It took until the fifth ORWBL series of the year for the New Carlisle Newts to play with the wind blowing out, and most of the Newts lineup took advantage of favorable hitting conditions at Migley Field on Sunday.
New Carlisle (10-5) swept arch-rival Rolling Prairie (4-11) in the first of two series between the clubs, 25-18, 17-9, and 17-10.
Chayse Davis made his season debut for the Newts, going 14 for 21 with 11 home runs and 16 RBIs.
Noah Shail played in just his second series of the year, and still shows no rust. The 2015 ORWBL MVP has hit .674 in the six games he's played. Shail hit 10 home runs in the series.
Regulars Scott Soos and Garrett Curless also raised their season batting averages after battling tough winds in their first 12 games. They also padded their power numbers. Soos left the yard 15 times today, while Curless hit 8 dingers.
New Carlisle now leads the all-time series between the two rivals, 28-25. They will meet again in Rolling Prairie to close the regular season on July 9.
The Newts finish a 12-game homestand, and the home portion of the 2017 schedule, with a three-game series against Maple City with the date still to be determined. All eyes will be glued to Migley for this World Series rematch.
