Mechanics pick up Mother's Day sweep over EA
NEW CARLISLE- The Olive Township Mechanics spoiled Emery's Army's return to ORWBL play by taking all 3 games on Opening Day. The Mechanics made their mother's proud as this was the only series played on Mother's Day.
After a tough first season in the league, the Mechanics showed major improvements Week 1 and surprisingly lead the NL East after Week 1 as they hold a 1 game lead over the Newts. While it is still very early in the season, the Mechanics have to be thrilled with their Week 1 performance. There new acquisitions of Jasen Webb and Bailey Rhed definitely improved this team as the Webb brothers are 2 of the best fielders in the league.
As for the Army, they had a tough time getting back into the swing of things after a year break from ORWBL play. Jake Lawrence has taken over the managerial duties which Eric Johnson had controlled before EA took last season off. EA did show some improvements in the 3rd game of the series as they came back to take the lead heading into the bottom of the 6th.
However, Manager Aidan Cotter capped off a 3 win day on the mound with a walk off Home Run high into the trees to complete the sweep. After the series, Cotter stated: "I don't want to get ahead of myself, I am trying to keep the guys humbled but honestly I think we can play with just about anybody when things are going well this year." It certainly was a great start for the Mechanics and they will look to build on that next week against an experienced Galena Marsh squad who will be looking to bounce back after dropping 2 out of 3 to the Newts.
