Newts win their 3rd ORWBL World Series after sweeping Maple City!

LA PORTE - For the third time in four years, the New Carlisle Newts reign supreme in the Old Republic Wiffle Ball League.

New Carlisle completed a sweep of the Maple City Magic on Wednesday, winning 14-10 in Game 3 and 11-2 in Game 4.

Game 3 was a back and forth battle, with the Newts grabbing an early 7-2 lead. Maple City was able to battle back a couple of times, chipping away and eventually tying the game at 10 heading into the sixth.

However, the Newts scored four in the top half and Jay Ryans shut Maple City down, as the Newts escaped with a victory.

With the Newts up 3-0 and completely in control of the Series, New Carlisle also took control of Game 4. Ryans was magnificent on the mound, while the offense continued to click. The Newts clinched the title with a convincing 11-2 win.

With major contributions all season from Ryans, Danny Hernandez, Scott and Matt Soos, the title would not have been possible without the acquisition of the four Cult West Warriors.

New Carlisle and Cult West have combined for the last five ORWBL Championships.

The Newts have gone 8-0 against Maple City this summer, and have won 19 of the past 22 games against the Magic dating back to the 2013 World Series.

2016 marked the sixth World Series appearance for New Carlisle, most all-time. The Newts three titles is also an ORWBL record.

Left fielder Noah Shail was named World Series MVP.
