Newts improving historic ballpark
NEW CARLISLE - Fans visiting Migley Field will notice some changes to the league's most
historic ballpark this season. The New Carlisle Newts have unveiled plans to upgrade many areas of the park. The team will dramatically increase seating capacity and promote the Newts brand with the improvements. Most notably, a 27-seat grandstand will be added to the third base side. This project will raise capacity of the park from 16 to 43. The new seats will provide additional seating options for Newts fans and will also help accommodate the larger crowds for future All-Star Games and the Hometown Cup Finals. The new seating is expected to be ready for Opening Day. Already completed, the Newts have rebuilt the team equipment shed, located behind the visitors' bench. The original shed was demolished in a severe storm last July. The shed is smaller than the original, however the team will be adding banners to the side to commemorate ORWBL accomplishments. The team will also upgrading the backstop by giving it a brick appearance similar to Wrigley Field. A banner with a brick design was used for the 2012 Hometown Cup Final and received positive reviews. The current advertising board will be replaced. Incorporating the team logos and colors into the ballpark will be a primary focus as well. In addition to the championship banners, Newts logos will be included on various signs throughout the park. Additionally, the team also hopes to add more team logo flags to the park.
