Two players hit for cycle on Sunday
NEW CARLISLE- Although it has certainly been done before, no cycles have ever been
officially recorded in the Old Republic Wiffle Ball League. On Sunday afternoon, Matt Serge of the Sour Wowers and Kaylor Keck of the Newts each accomplished that feat. League historians believe it is the first time multiple players have hit for the cycle in the same day. Serge, the 2011 American League MVP, was in town for the weekend playing for the Sour Wowers. His cycle came in South Bend's game three win against the Pterodactyls at The Palace. He tripled in the first, hit two singles in the fourth and fifth, then homered and doubled in the sixth. Serge hit .640 for the series with 2 HR and 9 RBI. Keck, accomplished his cycle in New Carlisle's game one loss to Emery's Army at the Grassy Knoll. He went 4-for-6 in the game, but also took the loss on the mound. He completed the cycle with a double in the sixth, during the Newts' failed comeback attempt. Keck is batting .448 on the season.
